BNC connectors (Bayonet connectors) - were invented in the 1940s. In the abbreviation BNC (Bayonet Neill-Concelman) - Bayonet locking mechanism represents connection of the connectors, and Neil (Bell Labs) and Konselman (Amphenol) - the names of the inventors. Two versions BNC connectors for cables with a characteristic impedance of 50 ohms and 75 ohms. Maximum operating frequency is 50 ohm BNC connectors - up to 11 GHz (low VSWR up to 4 GHz), 75 ohms - to 4 GHz. BNC connectors are used for surveillance, radio, measuring equipment, and other equipment.

Connector BNC Male (Dad, Plug, Plug, Plug) has two spiral grooves on the inside of the castle and the connector center pin - pin.
Connector BNC Female (Mom, socket, jack, Jack) has two bayonet lug on the outside of the castle and the center pin - hole.
